One Author’s Marvellous Message

AND THE WINNER IS….

This December, I held a competition for someone to win a free copy of the popular and beautifully illustrated children’s book Marvellous Me.

I am pleased to announce that Sarnia Ralston was the winner. Author of Marvellous Me, Angela Boyle (of Being Me Books), Illustrator Carolyn Rose (of Moonseed) and myself decided her response to our competition was our favourite.

To win, Sarnia completed the following sentence:

I help my child to know in their heart they are marvellous by….

with her response:

“Telling them every single day that they are as marvellous and wonderful as everything marvellous and wonderful they could ever imagine. (Both verbally and with awesome cuddles.)”

Read about how reading Marvellous Me had a powerful impact on me. My post below is from 12 September, 2014.

As I embark on my own passion-seeking quest to attend the Hay House Writer’s Workshop in Sydney, I thought to myself how this was the perfect opportunity to tell the world about a marvellous book that I have discovered.

When I first picked up a copy of Marvellous Me by Angela Boyle, it brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart in one powerful moment. When I later contemplated why I had become so emotional about this children’s book, I realised it was for two reasons. The tears were because it was as though Angela had written this book especially for me. I am sure anyone who reads it will have a similar feeling. She speaks to your soul. As I embraced each word on the beautifully illustrated pages, it was as though all my childhood hurts – the small ones and the not so small ones – disintegrated with the turn of each page. It erased the negative emotions of the pages of my life story.

I thought how is it possible that a single book – a children’s book – I remind myself again, could have such a profound effect on my tear ducts and my hearts strings?

And that was when the second reason revealed itself to me. The joy I felt had erupted out of a sense of hope and possibility. This book represented my hope to continue my dream of one day becoming an author. Angela had demonstrated perfectly to me that, not only could it be done by a fellow mum, but that it could be done so brilliantly.

I could feel Angela’s spirit, her passion, and her dreams with each prose, with each page. And now I know that’s why we become so animated, exhilarated and emotional when we speak of our work towards our dreams. It is the spirit inside of us that is yearning to express itself. It is this spark of inspiration that is always ready to guide us in the direction of our life purpose.

In this process, it has also become clearer to me how the impression of an individual can have a collective impact. I genuinely feel this book belongs in schools, libraries and bookstores the world over. Children deserve to remember who they truly are…we all do!

So I encourage you all to gift your child with a copy of Marvellous Me, and at the same time welcome the gift that it will be for you too.

    • Thank you for your kind words Louise. Sometimes a book finds its way into your hands and your heart and you just know it is meant to be shared. I feel in this way, Angela is changing the world one page at a time.
